The most rewarding aspect of practicing psychology is figuring out how a person processes information for the purpose of choosing effective treatments and interventions. Finding the match between thinking (cognitive) style and motivating therapeutic activities is a priority and a passion. I am not “cookie cutter” in anything I do. I continually challenge myself to come up with unique and interesting ways to implement evidence-based therapeutic approaches, and to explain assessment results in a straightforward, meaningful way.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Licensed Health Service Provider in California and Iowa. I work with a variety of ages including children, adolescents, adults and families. I have highly specialized training in psychological and neuropsychological assessment, as well as Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction therapy. I also have experience in working with children, adolescents, and young adults who have chronic medical illnesses.

I received my Master of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in 2003, followed by my Education Specialist Degree from UNI in 2006. Returning to school in 2007, I went on to earn my PhD at the University of Iowa in 2011, where I gained experience in both inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic settings at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) – Division of Pediatric Psychology. My post-doctoral training was completed at UIHC - Department of Psychiatry in the areas of cleft lip and palate, Huntington disease, diabetes and premature birth. I have worked in community mental health and private practice settings, most recently running a psychology practice (Iowa City Psychology, LLC) with Dr. Thomasin McCoy, PhD, in Iowa City, Iowa.

I am new to the Southern California area having moved from Iowa in April 2019 due my husband’s job relocation. We left a daughter behind in Iowa to finish her college degree. Prior to the move, I had visited the area a number of times over the past 10 years and really loved the area. The weather is a super bonus given that I love being outside. Iowa winters last way too long! In my free time I enjoy hiking with my husband Chris, and two dogs, Tolstoy and Harper Lee. I also enjoy relaxing with my kitties, Spunkie, Quin, and Tott, as they help me achieve a calm, peaceful feeling. Running, biking, swimming are also free time activities that I enjoy, as are bubble and word games.
